Clara’s Son and His New Buddy

Clara’s Son and His New Buddy

Clara has recently noticed a new "permanent member" in the corner of the sofa at home—a plump panda plush. Ever since bringing it home, her son’s small figure has never been without this black-and-white fluffy companion. Every afternoon, as sunlight slants across the living room floor, her son crawls onto the sofa, spreads his picture book on his knees, and carefully places the panda plush beside him, its head tilted slightly like an attentive little listener.

When he reads stories, his voice is very soft. Occasionally, he stops, points at the pictures with his little finger, turns to the panda and says, "Look, the little rabbit here is lost." When he comes across an unfamiliar word, he frowns a little, reaches out to pat the plush’s head as if asking, "How to read this word?" After a pause, he giggles and continues reading. One time, Clara quietly approached and found her son breaking a cookie into two halves. He put one half into his mouth and carefully placed the other on the panda’s paw, whispering, "Here you eat, this is our secret snack."

Before, when her son drew, he always bent over the desk alone, coloring. Now, he puts the panda next to the drawing paper. After each stroke, he holds up the paper to show the plush, muttering, "This is the sun, Panda, do you like it?" Before going to bed at night, he must hold the panda plush, press his little face against the soft fur, and soon fall asleep.

For Clara, this "new buddy" is more than just a toy. It can’t speak, but it has become her son’s most loyal companion—listening to his imaginative stories, accompanying him through quiet reading time, and even sharing his little snacks and troubles. Watching her son snuggle with the panda plush, Clara suddenly thinks that the best childhood gift may be such a "little ear" that allows a child to let go of defenses and talk freely, quietly filling every moment of growth with soft companionship.
